We are the Herrera Family. We are missionaries serving with Youth With A Mission in San Jose, Costa Rica. This is our 5th year living and serving here in Costa Rica and are leaders of Freedom Street Ministries.
We met on the mission field in Guatemala and fell in love- I love to say that our story has a “trashy start” since we feel in love serving together in a trash dump in Guatemala. (And I also like to think that I’m funny). We have been married since December, 2012.
Carlos is from El Salvador, and Sidney is from Georgia.
We love the Lord and love to serve Him as a family! In May 2015, we welcomed our youngest missionary into the family- baby Selah Grace. She is adorable and has radically changed our lives! We have loved learning more about God’s father’s heart through becoming parents ourselves.
Carlos is a musician and a worship leader. Sidney was a special education teacher in Georgia.
Selah loves to talk (shocking for those of you who know me). She also loves to be around people- she’s already a great missionary- the child is an extrovert!
Carlos and I are both bilingual- so we speak “Spanglish together at home”! As we are both still learning and will probably always be further developing our second language, people always find it entertaining to hear Carlos speak English with very southern words in his vocabulary.
Missions has taken us all over the world- we have been to 15 countries and love seeing different attributes of God in different people groups- what a beautiful and diverse God we serve.
